The Rapide Scorpius is a full-size 1911 from Kimber chambered in 9mm, with a 5-inch match-grade barrel wearing a DLC coating, an 8.7-inch overall length and a weight of 40 ounces. It is single action with both a grip safety and an ambidextrous thumb safety. Kimber finishes the gun in KimPro Black and polishes the flats of the slide, cuts stepped cocking serrations and lightening windows into the slide, stipples the front strap with its Stiplex pattern and fits black G10 grips in the Rapide pattern. Fiber optic sights sit on top, and one 9-round stainless magazine comes in the box.

The weight, the long sight radius and the bright front sight make this a 1911 for the range and for action-pistol matches, where 9mm keeps recoil soft between shots. The ambidextrous safety suits left-handed shooters, and 9+1 rounds give a few more shots per magazine than a .45 1911 of the same size.
