Michigan is a licence state for concealed carry. You apply to the clerk of the county where you live, provide classifiable fingerprints, and complete an approved pistol safety training course; the clerk issues the concealed pistol licence or a notice of disqualification within forty-five days. Applicants must be at least twenty-one. Open carry of a legally registered pistol is generally lawful, with exceptions. The licence also exempts holders from a separate purchase licence, which is why many Michigan owners keep one current.
Michigan's deer year opens with the Liberty Hunt in mid-September and the Independence Hunt in mid-October, runs the November firearm season, and from 2026 holds a shortened three-day December firearm season in the Lower Peninsula starting the first Friday in December, followed by a late antlerless season through January 1.
