A Walther Sportmodell single-shot .22 training rifle from Zella-Mehlis, graded fine by the seller. The 26-inch barrel keeps an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling, and about 97 percent of the blue survives, worn at the buttplate and trigger guard. Markings: the Walther banner over Thuringen on the chamber, the serial over Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis on the left of the receiver, Deutsches Sportmodell on the right, and Kal. 22 lang fur Buchsen with nitro and crown-over-N, B and U proofs on the barrel. The stock shows use dents, the largest low on the left of the butt; the cleaning rod is present and the action functions correctly.
This rifle is for a collector of German military and training arms rather than a hunter. Sportmodell rifles in fine condition are hard to find, as the seller notes, and this one has the proofs, markings and cleaning rod a serious collection wants. It remains a working single-shot .22, but its appeal is as an original example.
